Empowering an Individual Plan for Student learning is so much more than an online career interest survey starting in 8th grade. Individual learning plans begin with the earliest informal learning experiences of our children. Recognizing system capacity to support family, community and school capacity for individual student success is critical to planning!
Evaluating system capacity is critical to identify strengths and strengths to be!! It is important to connect information directed toward counselors and social workers so that integration of Social Emotional Learning is embedded within student experiences universally. With so much work to be done we suggest bringing a team to share the load!
This day long conference will host 4 Essential Conversations through workshops to support the success of the IPS in your schools. We will unearth connections between the Individual Plan of Study (IPS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives to expose opportunities to combine efforts when working with students, families and colleagues. We encourage school districts to bring key leaders of the IPS and SEL initiatives. The format of the event includes:
Lead By Example - Building Adult Social-Emotional Skills (1 hour 15 min)
Adult Social-Emotional Skills are essential for creating a positive school culture and for building skills in students. Strong adult SEL skills also improve teacher well-being and reduce stress and burnout. Learn how, as a staff, you can intentionally create structures that promote, build, expect, and evaluate these skills.
Engaging Families in the Individual Plan Of Study (1 hour 15 min)
Individual Plans of Study (IPS) in middle and high school can help student strategize their learning while giving information to families as they work together to plan their children’s future. By including families in the IPS process, families engage in the career development of their child, which serves as a key driver for optimizing youth development.
IPS Advising, Work-based learning and Community Engagement (1 hour 15 min)
How does the IPS Framework in your school tie Career Development Process with engaging Community Partners and creating meaningful Work Based Learning experiences? How can schools measure and document the essential career-ready skills and knowledge students obtain from work-based learning experiences? Gain a clear understanding of the connection between IPS, WBL and Community Engagement while also receiving guidance on creating work-based learning student portfolios aligned to the Individual Plans of Study (IPS). Participants will receive tools and resources to help students document and reflect on their work-based learning experiences.
SEL Needs Assessment and Planning Tools (1 hour 15 min)
