Description
LETRS® stands for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling. LETRS® is a professional learning course from Lexia for instructors of reading, spelling, and related skills. It provides teachers with the skills they need to master the fundamentals of reading instruction – phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and language. This experience strengthens teachers’ knowledge of language structure, the development of the reading brain, and how to nurture the development of foundational literacy skills. LETRS® is not a curriculum, nor a program used to provide instruction, it builds the knowledge and skills so that teachers can be more successful with locally selected curriculum and interventions.
LETRS®
This course is appropriate for educators designing and providing instruction to students or coaching staff in kindergarten through 5th grade or providing instruction to students struggling to read at any grade level. However, KSDE ESSER funding only pays for the training of K-3rd grade teachers.
The LETRS® course is composed of two volumes and completed over 2 school years.
Teachers will complete a self-paced asynchronous online course, reading from the LETRS manual, and classroom application activities estimated to require 45-55 hours (approximately 2 hours per week) each school year. Estimated Time to Complete Each Unit
Even if you’ve had LETRS® training before, participating in the new edition of LETRS® is beneficial because it includes the most current research around the science of reading and ensures educators understand and can apply the most up-to-date, evidence-based research.
Registration is DUE by August 30, 2023 in order to provide ample time for material delivery and pre-course work online.
